Ear Training

During the process of this, I decided to use the compression. The loops I selected from GarageBand on my MacBook were Noisy Vox, Longing Piano, Synth, and an Acoustic layer beat in order to use the compression. Once Activated, I noticed that the higher I went, the more dramatic it was depending what I wanted to hear more of. Not to mention, the higher the compression, the difference of a sound you can hear. So for instance, when I raised the low parts, I was able to hear the bass-like part from the Noisy Vox loop as well as the Synth compared to without using the Compression. However, when I added reverb for curiosity, it provided a unique space that did not sound dull and gave the feeling as if the loop has been mixed by a professional. That said, when you do the opposite of it, it kinda sounded like a tinning-like sound (the sound of an old phone with bad quality).

That said, it was interesting in learning how compression works and how it sounded. For me, depending what you are wanting to hear, there is either an emphasis of those certain frequencies that are being introduced more or it sounds balanced and is not dramatic in terms of volume from each instrument. What I learned from this tool and this project is that the compression can be applied in a artistic way or in a way to solve audio issues in terms of trying to cut or hear something more from that certain instrument. It helps create a nice balanced sound but it also gives you the creativity to create unique sounds to apply in a performance or song.
