Basic Gain Staging

During the process of basic gain staging, it was interesting in terms of how to set one up. On the right side are the equipment we used. The first thing we had to do was to connect the speaker and connect the microphone to the mixer before we started adjusting the volume and begin getting sound. So, once that was done, our next thing was to set the volume from the mixer and put it on unity. We were also trying to see if we are getting any feedback and once we see any type of activity, it let us know that it was active and working fine. From there, we set the volume from the speaker (not from the mixer) at an appropriate level. Once we did that, in the end, we put the main mix and unity. We got sound from the microphone in the end.

Items Used

For Microphone, we used the Shure Beta 57A

Speaker Sensitivity, HPF, Input Gain, & EQ

For the speaker, the volume was set nearly in the middle but below it more specifically due to the volume and power of it. HPF was also not used. For input, we had it barely passing unity (main mix is also unity) just by a bar.

In the end, we messed around with the eq and different effects. There was a special knob and each number had a different effect. If this were applied to one of the inputs, the more we raised the effects option, the more it will sound like that which I thought was amusing and fun to use.
